  thanks! it’s a next.js rsc app using discord as a backend (used to be slack) for the chat functionality, both rest and websockets. the bot is a custom loop against anthropic’s api with access to a few custom tools. mostly vanilla integrations (i.e. no sdk’s) to keep it easy to maintain. the source code is here: https://github.com/simonkberg/simon.dev

  so the basic idea is you generate your certs and keys on a separate machine that's not connected to the internet, then copy them over to your openvpn server - you point openvpn at the ca cert, server cert, and server key in your config file (usually something like ca /path/to/ca.crt, cert /path/to/server.crt, key /path/to/server.key), and then clients just need a copy of the ca cert to verify the server's certificate when they connect

  honestly idk if I'm the best person to ask for advice, i didn't go the conventional route. i'm self thought and started coding as a pre-teen, never been to uni. if you're passionate about coding, just keep yourself up to date, embrace challenges, and stay humble; knowing you know nothing is a superpower, as long as you're eager to try to learn (and fail, which is the best way to learn)

  i think what's most important now is that the entire industry is changing; how we work has been completely redefined in basically a year, but the focus should still be on solving problems regardless of how we do it. embrace AI, learn how to use the tools that are relevant today. once again, try, and you will either succeed or fail. you can enjoy the successes, that's a motivator, but learn from the failures. failing is never bad. imo, the biggest hindrance to growth has always been big egos

  hi! honestly, just build stuff. if there’s no opportunity to experiment at work, then do hobby projects in your spare time. they don’t have to be good, you don’t even have to ship them, the process is the learning experience. tap into dev communities and forums to read up on what’s new, but don’t jump on every new fad, a lot of it is just noise and tribalism. find what looks interesting and try to apply it to a real project
